When we were planning for our Craft + Craft Beer event at Boulder Beer Company I had fun thinking up different beer-related crafts. I asked them if we might get our hands on some labels and whoa, did they deliver. (Not that I would have minded drinking several cases of delicious microbrew in the name of craft, but this was more efficient.)
We decided to make custom coasters featuring our favorite beers by Mod Podging the labels to ceramic coasters.
- Beer Labels (you can carefully peel these off of the bottle, or ask your local craft brewer if they can spare a few)
- Ceramic Coasters
- Mod Podge
- Foam Brush
This is one of those projects that can be as simple or as complicated as you like.
1. Attach the label to the coaster using Mod Podge. Be sure to put Mod Podge directly on the coaster first, and then attach the label. After the label is on the coaster, finish with 1-3 coats of Mod Podge on top of the label to seal it.
2. To protect your table, attach a square of felt that is just slightly smaller than the size of you coaster to the bottom. We used charcoal grey felt and attached it using Mod Podge or hot glue.
But we also saw tons of people with even more creative ideas. Above is Ali's "ransom-style" Stop Pinning Start Making coaster. Others cut out different mountains scenes from the labels and put them together into a cool sci-fi looking landscape.
